Award-winning writer and lawyer Whiti Hereaka’s (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Te Arawa) third novel Legacy is a thrilling and realistic story of being in the Great War. Steph Matuku (Ngāti Tama, Ngāti Mutunga, Te Āti Awa) won a Pikihuia Award for Maori Writers for a novel extract in 2017 and has just published two books: YA novel Flight of the Fantail and children’s book Whetu Toa and the Magician. Both also write in a number of other forms including for stage and screen, and in 2018 were brought together by Huia in a writer mentoring relationship. They come together to talk about their work, how mentoring works and the ingredients required to become a better writer.
