Set in 1960s rural and coastal New Zealand, Storylines Notable Book Awatea’s Treasure grew out of a bedtime adventure story told around a school camp fire on a remote rocky shore in the Far North, and has now been embraced by readers across the country. Author Fraser Smith is Principal of Kaitaia’s Oturu School and has also worked as a fisherman, musician and farmer. His passion for stories that resonate with New Zealand children, particularly Māori and boy readers, combined with his love for the sea and the bush, will be to the fore as he introduces Awatea to a wider audience.
