Gavin Ellis has been a political journalist, defence correspondent, and editor-in-chief of The New Zealand Herald. He was chair of the Media Freedom Committee and recipient of the 2005 Commonwealth Astor Award for services to press freedom. He is currently a lecturer and media commentator.
