Nathan Rew is a lecturer of Pacific and Indigenous Studies in te Pua Wānanage ki te Ao, the Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies at the University of Waikato. Nathan is an academic and an activist hailing from the coastal waters of Gulf Province Papua New Guinea. A philosopher and theorist, Nathan's work explores the barriers embedded within modernity which prevent us from moving towards new Oceanian relationalities - towards more collective regional understandings of ourselves. To this end, his work currently focuses on understanding how colonial-capitalism constructs anti-Blackness in the Pacific to legitimate the West Papuan genocide, as well as producing the ecological destruction of our waters across Oceania.
