Priest and poet John Weir was a friend and mentor to poet James K Baxter and the foremost scholar of his work. He lectured in English at University of Canterbury and edited the Catholic newspaper Zealandia. In 1965 Weir began keeping a bibliography of Baxter’s writing, which has now resulted in the four-book set James K Baxter: Complete Prose (2015).
