Alaskan born and raised, Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock was a public radio reporter for many years and raised her kids on a fishing boat. Her country of birth, its landscape and people inspired her powerful debut novel The Smell of Other People’s Houses which won the 2017 German Youth Literature Award and was shortlisted for both the CILIP Carnegie Medal and UK Literacy Association Awards, and listed in The Guardian’s Best Children’s Books of 2016. Currently based in Rawene, Bonnie-Sue introduces her award-winning novel and through it her homeland of Alaska.
