Oceans Between Us: Pacific Peoples & Racism in Aotearoa

Toni Morrison observed that racism distracts people from their work by forcing them into a constant state of self-explanation.

Join Guest Curator Zech Soakai in conversation with Dr Sereana Naepi, editor of the landmark collection Oceans Between Us: Pacific Peoples and Racism in Aotearoa, for an urgent and incisive discussion about how racism continues to shape Pacific experiences in our country today, and what it means to speak back from a Moana-centred perspective.

Grounded in Dr Naepi’s scholarship and encompassing perspectives from 13 expert contributors across education, health, climate and justice, together they reflect on structural racism, lived experience, and the possibilities for clarity, resistance and collective imagining among Tangata Moana in the Aotearoa diaspora.

Part of Zech Soakai’s Guest Curatorship.
