CHARLIE TANGAROA AND THE CREATURE FROM THE SEA: T K ROXBOROGH (2022)
2021 NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults supreme winner Tania Roxborogh (Ngāti Porou) scooped up both the Wright Family Foundation Esther Glen Junior Fiction Award and the coveted Margaret Mahy Book of the Year award for her book, 'Charlie Tangaroa and the Creature from the Sea'. It is a tale of the interconnection of humans and the environment, interweaving ordinary Tolaga Bay family life with Māori mythology, and has been praised for the diversity of its characters as well as its engaging style and voice. Tania will talk about her winning modern-day tale and the ancient stories from which it and other recent books have been shaped.
