Historian Ben Schrader was Senior Researcher of the award-winning New Zealand Historical Atlas and has written extensively for Te Ara. He specialises in urban history and his latest book The Big Smoke: New Zealand Cities 1840-1920 has been shortlisted for the 2017 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards.
