From East to West (and Back Again)

Deepa Bhasthi became the first Indian translator and the first translator of colour to win the International Booker Prize for her translation of Heart Lamp by Banu Mushtaq.

Alongside her own writing, lauded Korean author Bora Chung holds a PhD in Slavic literature and translates contemporary Russian and Polish work into Korean.

Singapore-born, Bangkok-based literary translator Shanna Tan works from Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Thai, bringing titles such as the best-selling Welcome to the Hyunamdong Bookshop by Hwang Boreum to English readers.

Daniel Hahn meets them to hear about their exceptional careers enabling literature to move between east and west, and the pleasures and challenges of doing so.
