Leonie Howie is a rural nurse specialist and midwife who has lived on Great Barrier Island for more than 30 years. With Adele Robertson, she co-founded Aotea Health, the island’s primary health care service, and the two have collaborated on the memoir Island Nurses.

Kathy Hunter is a writer and book reviewer, was a founding member
of the rst NZ book blog and of NZ Book Month and has also worked as a bookseller. She currently writes for a variety of publications and is involved in the Creative Matakana project.

Witi Ihimaera is the author of ction, short stories, scripts, screenplays, essays, memoir and libretto including The Whale Rider, The Matriarch and Nights in the Gardens of Spain. His 2016 memoir Ma- ori Boy won the Ockham NZ Book Award for Non-Fiction and his latest, co-written with He-mi Kelly, is Sleeps Standing.

Hope Jahren is an internationally renowned medal-winning scientist, currently based at the University

Kuni Kaa Jenkins (Nga-ti Porou) is an educational researcher and professor in Education at Te Whare Wa-nanga o Awanuia- rangi. She and co-author Alison Jones are shortlisted for the 2018 Ockham NZ Book Awards for Tuai: A Traveller in Two Worlds.
ANNALEESE JOCHEMS NEW ZEALAND
Annaleese Jochems is a graduate of the Manukau Institute of Technology, and the International Institute of Modern Letters where she received the 2016 Adams Prize for Baby, her debut novel. It has gone on to be shortlisted for the 2018 Ockham NZ Book Awards.
STEPHANIE JOHNSON NEW ZEALAND
Award-winning novelist, poet, playwright, teacher and critic Stephanie Johnson, who is a co- founder of the Auckland Writer Festival, recently released Jarulan by the River under the pseudonym Lily Woodhouse. Other recent titles include Playing for Both Sides and The Writers’ Festival.
