The productivity of writer and
teacher Paula Morris (Nga- ti Wai,
Nga- ti Wha- tua) is legendary – from
her short story and essay collection False River, to her award winning novel Rangatira and four American
YA novels, to her teaching on The University of Auckland’s creative writing programme, the founding
of the Academy of NZ Literature, her mentoring work with schools in South Auckland, and her involvement with the Michael King Writers’ Centre and the NZ Book Awards’ Trust and Ma- ori Literature Trust. Morris pauses to talk about her work, the state of the local publishing industry and her hopes for the future with Finlay Macdonald.

War Memorial Museum’s current exhibition Are We There Yet? Women and Equality in Aotearoa, marking 125 years of women’s suffrage, Tusiata Avia, Alice Canton, Emma Espiner and Linda Olsson have each crafted writing inspired by an item from the Museum’s collection. They present their work. In partnership with The Auckland War Memorial Museum Ta-maki Paenga Hira.
