HEY, PIANO BAR LADY!

Linn Lorkin, a local jazz-
scene  xture and woman with international reach, takes to the stage to reprise her acclaimed autobiographical Hey, Piano Bar Lady! previously performed in Edinburgh, London, and Berlin. The musical
– a mélange of stories and songs – recounts Lorkin’s years in 1980’s
New York, and her progress from a dilapidated bar to the swanky heights of Park Avenue – with marriage, baby and divorce along the way. Aaron Coddel accompanies.

Returning for another extravaganza of spoken-word performance is Best of the Best, showcasing Aotearoa’s poets, in league with international guests. Te Karere Scarborough hosts an evening with John Carr and Jessie Fenton (both winners of Poetry Idol), Daren Kamali (founder of the South Auckland Poets Collective), Vanessa Crofskey (winner of The University of Auckland and Auckland Regional poetry slams), and the Dilworth School Team (winners of the 2017 inter-high school spoken-word poetry slam). Among those joining the local line-up are the novelist and poet Alex Wheatle (UK), and the renowned performance poet and artist Sonya Renee Taylor (US).

the lit quiz to end all lit quizzes, traversing the rich and varied terrain of Aotearoa’s writerly landscape in a series of quick and quirky questions. Gather a team together, or come on your own and we’ll add you to a team, and sharpen your minds and your pencils. Game On. Hosted by
Te Radar with special guests. Supported by the NZ Book Awards Trust.
